Kazakhstan Baikonur Cosmodrome Tour
Starting in Almaty, the cosmopolitan centre of Central Asia and the former Soviet capital of Kazakhstan, this tour winds its way through some of the weirdest and most wonderful parts of one of the least visited of the Stans; Kazakhstan. It eventually finishes in the country’s new capital Astana and a show-case to the all-powerful President’s love for unique architecture.
On the way you’ll see 13th Century mausoleums in Turkestan, and abandoned ships in the ever-receding Aral Sea. After hanging out with some fishermen, you’ll then get to Baikonur, the Russian Cosmodrome, where not only will we get to see some of the world’s most famous rockets, but also a real-life rocket launch!
- Visiting a real working cosmodrome in rural Kazakhstan and seeing a live rocket launch.
- The Aral Sea – one of the world’s most notorious man-made natural disasters.
Finding shells on the desert floor and exploring abandoned, rusty ships, it’s a very surreal place to be.
- The Valley of the Balls – a large flat area covered in huge balls of rock… There’s much more to it than this!
