At YPT, we are fairly renowned for our love of all things Soviet, with many of us lamenting the fact that we were born too late to sample Soviet times real deal style. So, in the absence of a time machine, we check out some ads from the Soviet tourism agency known as Intourist (the Soviet equivalent of KITC).
The Trans-Siberian has become a backpacker right of passage these days, but back in the day, it was all through Intourist.
Palm trees aren’t exactly what you’d expect from Soviet advertising, but back in the day Sochi along with Crimea and Abkhazia were major beach resorts.
Another Soviet beach resort was Odessa, Ukraine also famous for the Potemkin steps.
Now called Turkmenistan, and probably one of the few places even more strange now.
Who knew? The Georgian Military Highway was a tourist attraction.
Armenia famous for wines, cognac, churches and mountains, but according to the poster it’s all about the bridge.
Kill animals Soviet Style!
And we will finish today’s Soviet poster fest with this gem! See USSR, and its steel mills.
We hope that you enjoyed these Soviet propaganda posters and stick around to see more. Or better still check out our Soviet Tours!
